Information
In
1983 Coleco introduced the Cabbage Patch Kids with vinyl
heads and soft bodies, each one of them being unique.
Each doll was made with a variety of different facial
features, eye colors, hairstyles and haircolors. Instantly,
they were a craze all across North America. Adults rushed
to the stores to line up to buy them as soon as they arrived
in stores. For a while the supply did not nearly meet
demand and people would fight over who would be able to
buy the Cabbage Patch Kids and take them home and adopt
them.
With the Cabbage Patch Kids, children were able to feel
that they were getting a real baby. Each doll came with
a unique birth certificate and adoption papers. Children
across the world felt they had a baby to call their own.
Their outfits consisted of a disposable diaper, booties
or white socks and either t-strap or lace up vinyl shoes,
and a huge variety of clothing with different colors and
fabrics. These outfits included rompers, dresses, sleepers,
jogging suites, football sweats, and casual attire. Each
child had a unique name that was listed on their adoption
papers.
