Chameleons
are very interesting lizards. They base their color on
their mood. You will see color changes if the Chameleon
is frightened or under stress. Temperature, or light conditions
can also effect it. If a Chameleon is cold, the color
of its skin will be lighter than when it is warm.
The color change is caused by hormones that affect certain
pigment-containing cells in the skin of the Chameleon.
The color of the Chameleon does not change merely to fit
into its surroundings as most people believe. Most Chameleons
have a normal skin tone of brown or green.
