Information
Elephants
are large creatures that originated in Africa. They can
weigh up to 7500 kilograms and can grow to lengths up
to 7.5 metres. They do not really have to worry about
predators. They are just TOO BIG! Mothers are very protective
of their young, because they are smaller and could fall
prey to hyenas or lions.
When giving birth the mother is supported by other females.
These females help the mother care for her young during
the early time of its life. The young elephant is weaned
after two years. Elephants reach sexual maturity anywhere
from seven to twelve years of age. African elephants live
for up to 70 years.
